Shanghai World Expo 2010

May 1 - October 31 2010


The largest World Expo ever will be held in Shanghai in 2010, the Expo aims to promote the exchange of ideas and development in the worlds of business, culture, science and technology, the World Expo with its 150-year history is often regarded as the Olympic Games of economics, science and technology.

The theme for this expo is Better City, Better Life and will be a showcase of the best of urban living. More than 70m people are expected to visit the 5 exhibition areas spread over a massvie 5 square km site in downtown Shanghai.

It will be the largest World Expo ever held and the first to be held in China. So far, 191 countries, and 48 international organisations have confirmed their participation and work is well underway on construction both inside the site and on the surrounding infrastructure – for example 8 new underground lines are being built to help move visitors into and around the Expo.



Ireland has confirmed its participation and designs for the pavilion have been agreed and the start of construction is imminent. The picture above is a rendering of what the Irish Pavilion will look like. The theme of the Irish Pavilion is 'Art of Life'
