Getting Quality Right in China - Top 8 Tips
1. Find a good supplier, not all suppliers in China are the same, set your criteria for selecting a supplier and carry out research to find that supplier.

2. Get close to your supplier, build a relationship, foster open communication- it should go without saying but if you dont know who you are dealing with then you definitely wont know what you are buying until perhaps its too late. Relationships are hugely important in China and a positive working relationship may be more useful to you than your contract in some instances.
3. Specify your definition of quality - one companies' idea of perfect is not the same as another's, you must be prepared to specify in great detail what you define quality to be- the process of agreeing this specification should help you identify if there are any issues with the supplier’s ability to provide this quality.
4. Incorporate protection into contract - yes you do need a contract no matter how good your relationship is and how attractive the price. Contracts are well recognised in China and if a supplier is reluctant to specify terms at the outset imagine how difficult it would be to sort out a quality issue after payment! Various protections in case of quality issues can be very simply incorporated into your contract.
5. Monitor production using independent inspectors - this is common practice in China and provides you with opportunity to spot problems early on and is an absolute must for any OEM production. ChinaGreen

6. Inspect goods before shipment - and also, crucially, before any final payment is made. Again this is common practice and should not hold up shipping any longer than one day - but could save you 6 weeks in shipping incorrect items and and the final payment if the goods arent up to scratch.
7. Support your supplier - if you back the supplier to the wall in terms of price but dont provide feedback and advice on the quality issues then its reasonable that some corners will be cut.
8. Find a good supplier – its worth repeating
