China Freight

China is 9,900km away from Ireland. Moving your goods that distance, on time and at reasonable cost is a critical decision for your China project.

What freighting method is suitable to you? That depends on factors such as Volume / Weight / Budget / Time available / You & your supplier's location / Security concerns and so on. No one solution will be suitable for every business.

[h1 size=100%] International Freight Options
  • Courier - The global express giants, including UPS, DHL, FedEx and TNT, have already set up branches in China, they offer a secure and fast service at a premium price. Suitable for samples, urgent shipments and high value / low volume goods.

    • Example: It costs around €20* per kg to courier goods from Shanghai to Dublin and it takes around 4 days for the shipment to arrive.

  • Sea Freight - 85% of China’s exports are shipped abroad. China has some of the largest and busiest seaports in the world. This is the most cost effective way of moving your goods from China but it is slow and prices fluctuate according to season.

    • Example: it costs around €1,800* to bring a 40 foot container from Shanghai to Dublin, the journey time is around 6 weeks, weather permitting.

In the future, rail freight from China will be a real option with a high volume line to open between Beijing and Germany in 2010, reducing transit time to just 10 days.

* Prices valid at 23rd March 2009

The cost of freight also depends on the Quotation Basis your supplier has offered.

[h1 size=100%]Irish Customs and Port ClearanceAfter your goods arrive in Ireland, you or your clearing agent (often the freight forwarder) will need to clear the goods through customs. Certain documentation will be required by your clearing agent to facilitate this, you should arrange for your supplier to forward these as soon as the order has been shipped.

Duty will be payable on goods imported from outside the EU. You can Click Here to find relevant tariff information, or email the extraordinarily helpful people at the Revenue Office (Tariff & Relief’s Unit) in Nenagh at tarclass@revenue.ie.

[h1 size=100%]Freight ForwardingChinaGreen is not a freight-forwarder and we do not provide a freight booking service. However we are happy to recommend Emerald Freight as your China freight partner – please contact directly for a competitive quotation and a great service.
