Click here for details of our trip to Shanghai World Expo in September 2010 in association with JustSplit.com

The largest World Expo ever will be held in Shanghai in 2010, the Expo aims to promote the exchange of ideas and development in the worlds of business, culture, science and technology, the World Expo with its 150-year history is often regarded as the Olympic Games of economics, science and technology.

The theme for this expo is Better City, Better Life and will be a showcase of the best of urban living. More than 100m people are expected to visit the 5 exhibition areas spread over a massive 5 square km site in downtown Shanghai.

It will be the largest World Expo ever held and the first to be held in China. China and 191 participating countries (as well as 48 international organisations and several multinational corporations) are ready to welcome these, mostly Chinese, visitors to their pavilions. Shanghai has invested more than $4bn in preparations for the event, both inside and outside the Expo park – for example 8 new underground lines have been built to help move visitors into and around the Expo.

Ireland’s pavilion is in Area C and is a fabulously clean piece of architecture that holds its own against neighbouring pavilions that may have spend more than 10 times what Ireland spent. The clever use of light, transparent materials and grassy expanses makes it a disctinctive landmark among its neighbours.
